can dental implants be bridged between them,or are individual implants needed for each tooth postion ?

i had a accident,resulting in the loss of my upper teeth;excluding the two center teeth.can i have one implant inserted next to each of my 2 excellent middle teeth,than another implant further back 4-5 positions,and have a bridgework made to fill the gap? or must i have individual implants for each tooth position… that is toothless ? i am 53 with healthy bone,etc. thank you !

* Replace one or more teeth without affecting bordering teeth.
* Support a bridge and eliminate the need for a removable partial denture.
* Provide support for a denture, making it more secure and comfortable.

You can suspend a couple of teeth between implants in most situation. Many people – including me – are more pleased doing each replacement tooth-by-tooth, because of a dread that one of the “key” implants might fail. This gives us some leeway for a “Plot B.” That’s not to say that I “never” do a bridge between implants, but it is safer to go the other way. I would not take in a span of more than one gone tooth, though. In other words, three replacement teeth would be supported by two implants.

I am the implant coordinator for a dentist. This is what our opinion on this is. As Dr Sam, it is better to replace teeth individually with implants, that way if one does fail you are not forced to remove the whole bridge. But you can do a bridge on implants. You usually don’t want more than 1 pontic (Fake tooth inbetween) on the back teeth, but can do a couple on front implants.

We did a large case on a woman everywhere we house 8 implants on top, one did in fact fail, though we house a bridge along the entire arch attached to the remaining 7 implants. We had to make it everywhere it basically had a puzzle type tie in two seats so that it would fit properly, but this shows that bridges can be done on implants.

From your post it appears that you only have teeth #8 and 9, is that right? You would doubtless need about 6 implants total.
That is just a estimate though, since I don’t have x-rays on you.
