When an older person get dental implants, (screwed onto piers down in the gums)are they really pain free?

When an older person get dental implants, (screwed onto piers down in the gums)are they really pain free?

I want to know, about how long does it take to adjust to dental implants? Are there people for which dental implants would NOT be advisable?

Answer by Graham H
I had a first one place in about 2 months ago. I am 55. It was glued not screwed. I had a bit of distress because it was left a bit high so that caused too much pressure at the root inflaming my gums top and bottom but since the dentist polished off some more I would not know the difference between that and any of my normal teeth. It now gives no pain at all.

OLDER PEOPLE ARE NOT THE ONLY PEOPLE TO GET IMPLANTS. YOU MAY HAVE AN IMPLANT TO REPLACE A MISSING TOOTH(TEETH) AT ANY ADULT AGE. IMPLANTS AREN’T PAINFUL ONCE HEALING IS COMPLETE. THEY ARE SEEN STICKING OUT OF THE GUMS BECAUSE THEY ARE ANCHORED TO THE BONE BENEATH. IT’S A PROCEDURE THAT’S BEEN AROUND FOR YEARS. PEOPLE WHO HAVE IMPLANTS TO HOLD IN THEIR DENTURES ARE GLAD THEY NO LONGER HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT DENTAL PAIN.

Well frist off when they place them in no they wont hurt at all but once the medication wears off they will be very sore so the dentist will precribe pain medication and they will adjust them in the office by the second check up and over time if the bother you

If only they were pain free! The world would be a better house! Its just like any major dentistry work, like having a tooth out. It doesn’t hurt whilst it’s happening, but you will always have the aftermath of it. Though painkillers and other prescribed drugs will help to sort this out. But they are definately an investment worth having! xXx

Not sure what you mean by screwed into piers: what is a pier?

There are no age restrictions to getting dental implants. My Prosthodontist place them in his elderly grandmother and she could eat steak sandwiches when all her peers were eating mush.

As for pain if your teeth are gone there is generally no real pain just soreness. You will either be numbed up or asleep (your preference) and feel nothing while they are placed either way.

The only thing that keeps one from getting implant is lack of bone in the jaws. There are no other restrictions. As for adjusting? When you get them you will wear a denture or as in my case my fleeting teeth were screwed onto them immediately. After 5 or 6 months you get your permanent teeth. Mine took no adjusting and with a implant retained denture you will eat securely as one with natural teeth as the dentures will not go.

They are though, quite expensive.

My son had an accident when he was in the 3rd grade and lost 2 of his teeth and I’m just wondering if anyone knew of anyone that would do it for free or for reduced price in Indianapolis.

Thanks.

Call a Dental School or get county Health Insurance and have them pay

I doubt you can get implants for free, but here are some resources. Since he was in an accident, possibly someone will help you. If he is still young, I doubt anyone would do implants, though, as this would doubtless have to wait in anticipation of he is at least in his late teens.

Contact your local or state dental association and and see if there are any dentists who provide free or reduced cost care for low-income, disabled or senior patients.

Call your local health department and question about health centers that provide dental care for free or on a sliding extent.

Your local United Way may also be aware of such a clinic. In some areas, you can reach them now by dialing 2-1-1 for “non-emergency information.”

Go to a dental school, if there is one near you, for reduced costs.

If you are a senior citizen, call your local Area Agency on Aging or Office on Aging. If you can not find a listing in your local phone book on the “County Government” pages (usually marked with blue borders), call toll-free 1-800-677-1116 to find how to contact the Area Agency on Aging serving you.

Check http://www.toothwoman.net to see if low-cost or free dental services are available near you.

Check http://bphc.hrsa.gov and choose “Find a Health Center” to see if there is a low-cost clinic near you.

Check http://www.nfdh.org/DDS.html to see if your state has a “Donated Dental Services” program. D.D.S. is designed to locate dentists who will give free care to patients who are financially compromised due to medical problems. This is a process that will take a couple of months to get your information and then arrange for someone to see you. Not all states have D.D.S. programs.

Deantal Implants,Dental and Laser eye surgery is very safe currently. My cousin got her dental implants and lasik surgery in India by a company called Forerunners Healthcare. The Price for dental and lasik surgery is very less in India. She paid 25% of the price she was quoted in America.

Forerunners Healthcare is very well-known in India They arrange Dental surgery, jaw surgery, lasik eye surgery, Dental Implants etc for foreign patients in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and magazines- about their patient tales.
They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plot to have surgery abroad for low cost, as dental and eye surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

Hope this helps.

Usually Dental Implants are done for adults. Depending on what age your son is now, there may be other procedures that can be done for his teeth.

The dental work costs less in Mexico, India and Thailand than in USA (50% to 80% cost savings). There are many people in USA who go to Mexico (since it is closer to USA) for their dental work like implants, bridges, dentures, crowns, root canal, veneers, caps, fillings, bondings and more. You need to do your homework before choosing the hospital or doctor.

There are companies like healthbase (www.healthbase.com) who does all the research, visit the facilities onsite and also arranges all the necessary booking with the hospitals, travel, accommodation and even sight-seeing. Healthbase works with internationally accredited hospitals (like JCI / JCAHO / ISO accredited) and doctors who have trained in USA / UK. Their website has cost estimates (free refer to) and detailed profiles about the hospitals, doctors and medical procedures. Healthbase website also has information about medical procedures, medical visiting the attractions, dental visiting the attractions, cost comparison and much more.

They also arrange financing (medical loan, dental loan, home equity loan, etc) if needed. Healthbase is located in Newton (near Boston), MA, USA. Visit www.healthbase.com for more details.
