Q&A: Where can I find a dentist who specializes in dental implants in Los Angeles County?

Q&A: Where can I find a dentist who specializes in dental implants in Los Angeles County?

Will they be considered endodontists, periodontists? I’m confused. And when I make an appointment, what questions do I need to take in? Thanks for any and all help!

Geez, I’d reckon you’d be tripping over them down there. Them and plastic surgeons…

They are called Prosthodontists. Prostho from prosthetic meaning artificial. Implants are artificial teeth but when plotted and designed well work just as well as your own teeth.
Endodontists do root canals and Periodontists do gum surgeries.

Prosthodontists belong to the dental specialty that are trained to treatment plot, design and restore implants. Some non-specialists (general or cosmetic or family dentists) do implants also because they want to make money but are not trained to do so. Sometimes they pick up skills by going to weekend courses in Hawaii, Las Vegas or some golf resort in Florida – but prosthodontists go through a rigorous residency program that is accredited by ADA. In my opinion a excellent Prosthodontist would be your best bet.

cost for dental implant

I’m 42 and now have a full set of dentures. I have the money for Implants and have been contemplating getting a full set, top and bottom. I’m just wondering about the strength of the crowns, the feel if the implants, the pressure they can withstand (crown included) and, if they will feel like regular teeth or thick?

implants can be a conundrum depending on what metal is used for the base. I woman I know had titanium implants done and now whe has to have surgery to remove and replace @ 70 being ancient because the titanium is making the bone crumble.

The crowns which will either be porcelain with metal or all porcelain are very strong. Most liable the a metal framework will be fabricated, which you will never wear through. Under excessive pressure porcelain can chip. If it happens in an esthetic area you will need to replace it.
Implants will feel different than your teeth because they are combined to bone unlike teeth which are held by a ligament.
The implants and the crowns can withstand a lot of pressure. You should have nothing to worry about.
The crowns will feel very similar to what your natural teeth felt like to the tongue. The only difference you might notice is during chewing.
You will definitively delight in them more than dentures. You will be able to taste and feel food again.
You do not need to house an implant for each lost tooth. I would not recommend that. Implants should be placed in most favorable areas. This is everywhere you have enough bone. If you have been wearing dentures for some time that might be an issue. If you do get the implants, take care of them with excellent oral hygiene and regular cleanings.
