Tooth Implant before or after joining? MARINE CORPS?

Tooth Implant before or after joining? MARINE CORPS?

I am about to enlist into the Marine Corps.
Except I recently had a tooth knocked out in a fight,
it was removed. Now I need to have a fake tooth implanted.
Should I wait til after enlistment to have it replaced?

I know, the Marine corps is really strict about surgeries and
enlistment. I believe the rule is 1 year recovery before enlistment?

talk to your recruiter. if you KNOW that the “rule” is 1 year, then why ask?

I would check with a recruiter about that 1 year rule. As an active duty dentist, I will tell you that It is very difficult to get an implant at least in the Army. The reason is mainly because it takes 2 different dental specialists, your schedules and theirs has to match up between train ups, deployments, ect… And implants take a significant amount of time to complete. From implantation to restoration of the crown it usually takes 6months to a year. we do plenty of implants but there are a ton of soldiers that have lost teeth and budget constraints means that we have protocols on case selection. Bridges are also another option and that is easy to come by in the military.

So it comes down to taking your chances with the navy dentist providing an implant vs a bridge or just getting the implant on your own. Recruiters some times might not be the most knowledgeable on some of the regulations pertaining to “surgeries” I would ask a MEPs guy if the recruiter has any inkling of doubt. Extracting a tooth is considered a “surgery” and one of the first thing they’ll do in basic is extract any tooth with a non restorable prognosis.

you should wait till you are in the military to get that done. the Navy takes care of all the Marines medical and dental issues so it will be no cost to you once you are in. Dont expect to be getting it done at boot camp or anything but once you reach your duty station then talk to the dentist during your routine exam and he will set you up. I work in the medical field with the Navy and Marines so i can answer any questions u have about that stuff.

If you’re getting one this year, the technology is so wonderful that in most cases they’re more then 99% effective. (very rarely do implants fail) It will most likely last you the rest of your life (as long as you go for regular check ups and have good oral hygiene) This is the best procedure out there in tooth replacement. It’s important that you go to whomever your dentist recommends though, don’t price shop for replacement body parts. I’ve seen some terrible implants placed by oral surgeons that do need to be replaced so make sure your dentist has good experiences.

20 years or more “IF” proper maintenance, good oral care
is established by the patient.
