Is it possible to keep my original crown after I have an implant done?

Is it possible to keep my original crown after I have an implant done?

I will need an implant on tooth 7. After having root canal and many apics pain is back. Gotta pull the tooth and then get implant. Rather then getting another crown can’t they just keep the original one? It would save me mucho bucks. Thx

Nope, you will have to have a new crown fabricated. Your current crown was custom made to fit the remaining tooth structure and can NOT be used on the implant abutment. Sorry.

Hey RR thanks for the answer, but what kind of bone are you talking about. My tooth is a baby tooth and it needs to be extracted. So do I need to wait 6 months or can i have the implant done straight away?

Answer by Diana C
Naturally you have to wait 6 months because your gums need this time to hill!but if they regenerate quicker, you can do it after 3 months. Hope for the best!!

It was 6 months but know they can be placed straight away after the tooth has been extracted! But you still have to wait in anticipation of the bone has grown around the implant before a crown can be placed on the implant!

If it is a baby tooth, you won’t want an implant b/c the permanent tooth will be in shortly. If the permanent tooth is not there, you need to get the implant pretty quick, the mouth is an incredible thing, your soft tissue will suck right up to the bone b/c soft tissue heals quicker than bone, so the bone will not have time to “fill in” b/c the soft tissue has already gotten in there, so with an implant it makes the mouth reckon there is a tooth there and the soft tissue will stay place and allow the bone to adhere(it has a like word) and fill in around the implant. You certainly need to be in touch with your dentist on the time frame to have it done safely.

You CAN have it done straight away. You should contact an oral surgeon or the dentist that will be placing the implant.
I take it your primary tooth was extracted and you do not have a permanent tooth to take its house? (retained primary tooth)
There are different types of implants and some they can even house the crown or ‘fake tooth’ on at the time when they house the implant. You used to have to wait in anticipation of the implant integrated (combined) to the bone, then they exposed the top of it and place a healing cap on and then when that was healed they place the permanent crown on. I know now they can place a crown on the implant straight away, but I am sure it depends on what type of implant, everywhere it is located in your mouth, and your particular dentist (everyone has their own favorite technique they feel works best).

i house implants everyday. it’s really up to you. if you want to gamble i can extract, make the osteotomy site, and house the implant and doubtless a graft. will it work? possibly. in your case i bet the roots of you primary tooth are pretty tiny so you have a better chance for success.

if it was my tooth, i’d have it extracted and grafted and let it heal for 3-6 months. then i’d have the implant placed into a nice smooth ridge. the 10 year survival rate of implants in this situtation is over 95%.

so just question yourself how terrible you need that tooth and how soon.
