I heard somewhere that I may possibly get a tooth implant at some dentistry schools. It would be nice to get it done here than pay a few thousand dollars. Has anyone got this or any other dental operations done by a student at a school? I know I can just call a school and question about that, but anyone who as really gone through with this please answer.

I haven’t gone through it but i’ve referred some of my patients that couldn’t afford outside prices. They got excellent treatment at less cost

Dental schools are a very excellent option for someone who cannot afford the care of a private dentist! The cost is well below what you would pay out of pocket in a private dentists office and the care is just as excellent. Every dental student is CAREFULLY guided and observed/helped by a board certified dentist. The only down side is that because us students are in the process of learning these procedures the time you will spend getting care can sometimes be cumbersome. Your well-being is and by no means will be compromised at a dental school, and you can rest assured that you are in excellent hands and will be treated with respect care! Excellent luck with whatever you choose and take care!

I need an implant for my top front tooth. Which brand is surpass? Zimmer, Keystone, or Camlog?

I used to work in an implant specialty office, and can say that generally, here is one brand that typically outshines all the rest, which is BioMet 3i – I know you didn’t mention it, but it’s been around the longest, with the most consistent results; but if not, most of the other brands of implants, counting the ones you mentioned, are pretty much equal when it comes to quality, and are still held to very high quality standards. But, make sure the dentist is using a brand that’s been on the market at least five years – it takes a year or more to really get to know an implant brand, so if it’s very new here’s no way to tell if it’s faulty or not until it’s been on the market longer. If it turns out to be faulty, it won’t stay on the market longer than a year or two, which is why I recommend systems at least five years ancient.

Currently, out of the brands you mentioned, here is really no “best” brand of implant – they’re all manufactured to really high standards. But since each implant uses a point type of system unique to that brand, and because it takes awhile for a dentist to learn each system, the best brand of implant really is the one that the dentist has been using the longest. It takes more than a year of placing implants for a dentist to really get used to using a particular implant brand/system, so you’ll get the best results if you choose a brand that your dentist has been working with for a long time and really trusts. You’ll also then be assured that it’s a high quality implant just by the fact that the dentist has continued to use it for several years; any implant brand that has issues with mechanical failures isn’t on the market long, because any failure makes a dentist look terrible in the eyes of his patients and cost him/her a lot of money, so he/she will typically quit using an unreliable implant system pretty quickly.

But, just to clarify – you may already know this, but the brand of implant you use has nothing to do with the fake tooth or crown or how it will look afterward. The implant is the screw that goes below the bone that will by no means be seen. The tooth that sits on top of the screw is the crown, which is a separate procedure and absolutely unrelated to the implant brands or the implant process. The quality of the tooth part itself will depend on the quality of the impressions the dentist takes and the quality of the lab that makes the crown. I just wanted to clarify, since I’ve had many patients question which implant brand was best because they thought the implant and fake tooth were one and the same process and made by the same brand.

Bottom line: Go with one your dentist has used for the longest period of time. I am familiar with all three brands, and feel they’re all excellent.
