The doctors say that the bone in the place where the implants are supposed to be place is not thick enough. They will be getting from my hip and make a graft in the area where the implants will be place.
This is supposedly a major and painful operation. And I am looking for more information and/or alternatives to this.
Thanks

SOME TYPES OF IMPLANTS NEED NO BONE GRAFTS
Answer by John Bridger – DDS
I am not sure where the bone grafting is going? In the high arch or lower arch? Regardless, it sounds like they need A LOT of bone. This procedure is a more aggressive way of harvesting bone. If the grafting is for the high arch, there is a procedure called a "sinus lift" that does not require the use of such a large "piece" of bone. In the sinus lift procedure and in cases where minimal bone is needed we commonly use an allograft material made of remains bone that has been radiated and sterilized. If you are concerned in the least I would get a second opinion. Excellent Luck
