Q&A: What age does tooth growth stop?

Q&A: What age does tooth growth stop?

I am 18 and my wisdom teeth are coming out presently. I recently broke one of my molars and i have half of it left in my jaw. I do not want to take it out because I am worried a new one won’t grow to replace it. If i take it to a dentist he will want to remove it and i don’t have money for an implant, so will it growth

Answer by feedymite
Nope, you only get two sets of teeth, your baby ones and then the ones that come in after those fall out. If you lose any of your adult teeth, they won’t grow back! This is why people need dentures if their teeth all come out. (Though, apparently a few people in the world have had three sets of teeth… very rare!)

But, they can repair teeth without taking them out. I take upon yourself if this tooth hurt alot you’d want it out whether or not it would grow back… Since it doesn’t signal like it’s hurting you, the root doubtless isn’t broken into, and you’ve doubtless just broken a large chip out of the enamel. Fixing that shouldn’t be too much of a conundrum.

Answer by lump58
anything a quick fix for a tooth is not something I would play with. Better talk to your dentist or get a new dentist if someone is trying to sell you on this.

Answer by white_yack
doubtless doesn’t hurt as long as two hour tooth implants. I’d estimate about half as much :)

Answer by Black Beauty
Unless this is a new procedure, I don’t reckon so. Implants take quire a long time. Sometimes the skin tissue and bone will reject the implant. I reckon you should talk to a few dentists. Excellent Luck!

Answer by o0xmmx0o
I’m a dental assistant and I have to say I have never heard of a 1 hour “tooth implant” the process for getting a permanent implant, is generally the implant is place on day 1 and a fleeting crown is given on day 3 and a permanent ceramic crown given after 6-8 weeks when the implant has taken up, the gum needs to heal and accept the post.

Answer by The Mullet
Are you talkin about the MIDI implants. If so, my dentist said only if you are ancient and don’t want to spend the money on a regular implant. They don’t last as long either.

Answer by dentist01m
each implant with crown should cost around 2000 to 2500 so u l need 28 of them.
It will be better to get 4 on top and 4 on bottom and get implanted supported dentures.( 8 implants with dentures)
Mini implants are cheaper than conventional to support denture. each one will be around 1000.

Answer by Mandy M
Do you have insurance?
There are companies that offer affordable alternatives to insurance, or they could even supplement your insurance so that you pay even less. There are a few different companies out there that offer this. The best one i have come crosswise is AmeriPlan USA. Thier Dental Plus program is only 19.95/mo for your entire household and would take in discounts on dental, prescription, vision, and chiropractic costs. And it does take in cosmetic dentistry. So lets say that you have a membership with AmeriPlan and you went to get that done, you could end up saving 80% on all the costs. Visit www.MyBenefitsPlus.com/40571017 to check out the plans they offer and to find providers in your area.

answer lord_ponderer
Unfortunately, doubtless not in the foreseeable future (in my opinion). Implants are much more complicated than with fake teeth and screwed the costs are bound hoch.Schon before the surgery itself, you must go through a digit of appointments that have made impressions and x-rays. Someone then looks at these models and x-rays to determine what size implant to use, and at what angle it should be used, etc. The models of the teeth, they are building a device that guide the surgeons. So part of the cost of taking lab fees, cost of materials used (also high heaven), and a small part goes toward the salaries of the people who are doing the work (the heavens are high). (Hygienists, assistants, laboratory technicians, etc.) Everything is hand gemacht.Ein much of the cost because of the scenery of the surgical procedure (including anesthesia.) It’s about cutting into the gum, then drilling up into the bone at the precise angle for the right placement of the implant. This must take into account also the position of the nerves, blood vessels, etc. The surgeon who in many cases, also an MD, or at least an oral surgeon. In some cases, if there is not enough bone is available, the surgeon must be more before going ahead with the implant, which adds another level of surgery and higher costs. (Even more so if you have done in a hospital in commission room). The implant itself is quite expensive, since they are made of a material that your bone without bone resorption or infection that is made to integrate. There’s always research, done on dental biomaterials, and the creation of the “perfect” is not a cheap procedure. Consequently, they cost a fortune, the people, the implants of them, and that the cost to the patient weitergegeben.Die crown of the implant also expensive. The ones I’ve seen are hand made, starting with a wax-up and ends with the painting on the “fusion” part, layer by layer and color for your teeth color fits so impeccably. In between, there are a digit of steps that are very similar jewelry. (There is no computer that does this.) Unfortunately, because of everything that goes into the placement of an implant, I can not see the cost down quite a lot any time soon. (Unless someone invents an expensive computer system.) Insurance companies can accept it more but as they be converted into more standard. I reckon I’d be really worried of anyone, they could do it for $ 500, says … I would suspect that they know not what they do! But possibly I’m incorrect, who knows. :)

Tooth and gum question when chewing gum?

Tooth and gum question when chewing gum?

So I had a tooth extraction and an implant was place into my gums in June. It’s on the bottom left side way in the back – my last tooth. A month later, I noticed my gums started splitting behind the implant and I saw another tooth emerge – my wisdom tooth. It doesn’t bother me at all, it’s just now my wisdom tooth, my implant and then the rest of my teeth. But the weird thing happens: whenever I chew gum on that side, and it’s pressed against my wisdom tooth and implant, this really weird taste of terrible breath – like taste comes out. Is it just build up on my teeth or can it be puss and can it be a possible infection? I just want to know what the weird terrible breath taste thing that comes out from the back tooth is. Thanks

Answer by Barbara M
If your wisdom tooth is erupting there can be a flap of skin everywhere debri can being getting trapped. Try swishing with warm salt water and listerine to clean out the area. Gently brush the area everywhere the tooth is erupting to clean food and plague from it. If this doesn’t help I would see the periodontist about it.

Answer by Dental Assistant (IC)
Hi, aakoonche,

Providing your bone, etc, is suitable for implants, having an implant at 58 being ancient is absolutely fine, so I am lead to believe.

My friend had an implant with local anaesthetic and didn’t suffer from any severe pain. Perhaps slight discomfort is experienced, but no immense pain.

I am yet to work in a practice that provides implants, but from what I have heard, it is not as terrible as people reckon.

Keep smiling,

IC.

Answer by B T
as long as u have certain quantity of jaw or nasal bone tohave the screw hold in its house. If your jaw or nasal bone is less than 5mm, the dentist might place a bone graft..It also depends on everywhere the dental implant is gonna be placed. The actual procedure does not hurt because the dentist really numbs you (I have a excellent dentist :) ). I also had a bone graft – the dentist took the stitches out from the graft site 3 wks later..It didn’t bother me. Now he’s going to house the crown 6 months later..He told me that he just desires everything to be healed before the seats that crown (only a screw w/ cap is sticking out – does not bother me at all).

Answer by Kelli in FL
Having an implant is a wonderful way to replace a gone tooth. You are not too ancient to have one done and all of my patients that have had one say it feels like they had a tooth extracted. Not one of my patients said that it was very painful at all. The dentist that I worked for did numerous implants on his 80 year ancient grandmother and she did wonderful with the procedure. Excellent Luck.

Answer by toothfairy.2006
Implants are excellent for anyone who has excellent bone level and does not smoke. If you have implants and you smoke, they will get terribly infected and will have to be removed. Having them placed can be done locally. To recover from the procedure takes no time at all. It’s no worse then having a tooth pulled. If you don’t have enough bone level, a bone graft is also an option. I warn you though, it is very costly if your insurance won’t take in it. Your medical insurance could also take in a bone graft surgery if you go to an oral surgeon. But it just may depend on your coverage. One implant may cost up to $ 1400 and a bone graft could cost around $ 1500. Just depends on the doctor’s rates. Go to an oral surgeon for a consultation.

You should be done developing and this is usually at least 18 being ancient.

Answer by Gary B
Don’t believe everything you see on Youtube . . . . .

If it is OK with your parents AND they have the money to pay for it, AND the doctor agrees to do it, then you can have it done. the distress is, when you get back to england the doctors there will NOT treat you, and your parents insurance will NOT pay for it. So if you get an infection or an abcess, it MIGHT be necessary to remove your whole jaw! My, how pretty THAT is . . . . .

Answer by finalfantasyfreak15
it depends. usually they don’t want to place in implants in anticipation of you stop growing. cuz as you are growing your teeth shift seats in your mouth, so they would usually wait in anticipation of you are at least 18 cuz that’s when growth predictable stops. i had to have 5 implants place in and i had to wait till i turned 18 to start treatment.

There possibly alternatives to dental implants. Have you talked to dentist if there is any tooth repair or tooth fix procedures? For example root canal, crown can preclude tooth loss. Periodontal treatment such as root planing and scaling can also preclude tooth loss. If you have already lost your teeth, then ofcourse you need implant. Have you already lost teeth or you have them?

I have an eight tooth bridge in the front top of my mouth…they filed down four of my teeth and cemented them on them.about 6000 now

Answer by NLzonie
Dental implants are not cheap, roughly about $ 2000 -$ 3000 per tooth. The first step is to implant the post into the bone, which takes 6months or more to integrate and is usually done by an oral surgeon or periodontist. Once that has happened your general will then fit you with the crown or denture that screws onto the implant. It takes as while and is not a quick fix, but worth it in the end.

Answer by Skeeter
See my avatar? That is my new smile. I have dental implants. The results are incredible for me.

To answer your question. The procedure will depend on what dental professional you choose. If you choose a periodontist or oral surgeon you still have to choose a dentist to make your teeth. I chose a dental professional called a Prosthodontist which is a dental professional that specializes in replacement teeth be it dentures or dental implants. Not all Prosthodontists house implants on a regular basis and if you want dental implants choosing someone who does dental implants as the majority of their practice will help insure your implants success.

There are so many different types of dental implants. There are the kind I have everywhere I have 8 implants on top and 6 on the bottom everywhere I have a dental prosthesis that attaches to the implants with screws. I do not remove them for any reason not even for dental cleanings. They are strong and secure as natural teeth. Next there are individual implants per gone tooth which is the most expensive type there is. Then there are implant supported dentures. Everywhere they house 2 or more implants and make a denture for you that has a snap type device on the teeth and they snap down onto the implants. Then there are mini implants which are very thin and the bite strength isn’t as strong as the larger dental implants but for many works very well and this is the least expensive route but again the minis secure a denture.

Cost depends on the type you get. Prices can vary depending on the area everywhere you live. Depends on how many implants you need and what type of teeth you choose. There is NO way I can give you a cost estimate since I am not a dental professional. If you choose a periodontist or oral surgeon you then have a second cost factor for the dentist and a lab fee everywhere the dentist has to send the teeth back and forth from his office to the lab in anticipation of the teeth are made impeccably. If you choose a Prosthodontist with a lab on the premises you have only 1 bill because this dental professional can make sure your teeth are perfect as the dental lab technician can really see the teeth in the mouth and what is incorrect with them. This is what I chose.

I’ll be getting them sometime in the near future so:
1) do they sedate you? is it like a surgery?
2) do they hurt? how long will I be sore?
any info like the above would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

Answer by smilin2greeneyes
Dental implants are a wonderful way to replace teeth that are gone. Some oral surgeons will place you to sleep while placing them but honestly, the procedure is very minor and being wide awake but numb is generally a fantastic way to proceed with this treatment. You can expect soreness for a couple of days but they usually give you some type of pain meds and mouth rinse for comfort. Just follow your DDS’ instructions and you should get along fine. Excellent luck and congratulations.

Answer by Angela V
Hello, I have 2 dental implants.
I was not place out to have them done, just numbed up, they did not really hurt to have them place in, just intense pressure.
I will tell you this is a very long, pinched out process; first the implants (the screws) are place into your jawbone. Then they have to remain for 4-6 months so they bond with the jawbone before you can go on to the next step. Your dentist will place metal healing caps (attached to the screws) while you wait. The next step after about 6 months, the healing caps are removed, abuttments are attached to the screws everywhere the healing caps are and impressions are made so you can have the crowns made that attach to the abuttments. If the crowns have to be sent out to a dental lab to be made, expect a wait of 4-6 weeks before they are done. Some dentists now use a cerac machine that makes the crowns in the office, but most don’t. After the crowns are made, they have to be adjusted and glued to the abuttments.
I had problems with my gum tissue healing evenly, so I had to wait longer before the abuttments could be place on. I started on the implants in ahead of schedule April 2006, and just finished having the crowns applied Nov. 16. I am very pleased with them, they look and feel very natural. Be prepared to pay around 3000.00 to 3500.00 for each implant from start to end, including the crowns. Excellent luck!

I do its like getting a body piercing, but the insurance company paid for it.

Answer by Dental doc
Many people.

1)depends. It can be done under local anaesthesia or even conscious sedation.
2)minimally.

Answer by commonsenseusually
In the process of getting them now.

1. Sedation is not necessary unless you are very sqeamish and usually require sedation for minor surgery.
2. It IS surgery. They are placing metal INTO a facial bone.
3. Pain typically does not last or is not that intense UNLESS you get an infection. This is vital since an infection can produce the implant to fail. – I am now on my second bone graft since an infection ruined the first one. The infection caused intense pain that vital major narcotics just to deal with.
4. The implants don’t hurt. The initial surgery may leave you sore for up to a week and that is doubtless the worst you will experience.

Now all that being said, not all dentists/oral surgeons are the same. Find out all you can. What materials do they use? A major factor in implant failure is lack of excellent osseointegration. Do your homework and find out what that is and what approaches are available to preclude that type of failure. I can tell you from personal experience that a failure can mean more extensive (and expensive) surgery.

Implant or extraction before braces?

Implant or extraction before braces?

I am supposed to get braces in the next two months though, my orthodonist stated that because I had a tooth extracted in the back that he suggests getting an implant or having the top tooth pulled. Implants are costly and are out of my price range so I will have to go with getting the tooth extracted. I am curious if I wil have to get the tooth pulled first before the braces?? At the counsultation, I was informed that the braces would be place on first for two being and then pull the tooth. This seems backwards. Moreoever, I was informed that I may want to reconsider the implant instead. I believe that I was told this in order to make the office some money. Clearly, I cannot afford this plus the cost of braces.

http://www.nyu.edu/dental/patientinfo/faq.html – New York University College of Dentristry.

http://dental.columbia.edu/ – Columbia University

You will be better off having the work done at a university everywhere students are monitored each step of the way than travelling out of country to have the work done to a house everywhere you have no guarantee of quality. Cheap work generally indicates poor quality or inferior materials. Also if the work is done out of country and you have any problems then you have no recourse or help if anything goes incorrect.

Generally implants are a two stage procedure, stage 1 the titanium root is placed in the bone and you have to wait numerous months for it to oseointegrate (bone to grown around it) stage 2 is the placing of the crown on top of the implant which may also involve a couple of visits (at least) plus the time for the lab to manufacture the crowns (usually about 10 days).

Is a gap right in the middle of your two front teeth ugly or unique?

I have a gap in between my two front teeth. It’s not huge, but noticeable if you look meticulously. I’d say medium. I’ve been seriously thinking about veneers or teeth implants, but I wouldn’t want my two front teeth to look like a rabbit or something. Sometimes teeth implants or bonds look really screwed up. Do you all like gaps or are y’all just unaffected by them? Tell me if you reckon they’re extremely hideous or something.
all my other teeth are straight and gap-free.

implant or a bridge?

Answer by Bridges
Live without it. It makes for a cool hole to squirt water through.

http://www.phigmentphilms.com

Answer by Dr. Sam
There is nearly no situation that I can reckon of everywhere there would not sufficient bone for a conventional bridge. Unless you mean the bone on the remaining adjacent teeth is in terrible condition… THAT’s a conundrum! If that’s what you mean, it may be time to start talking about a “transitional partial denture” made all of acrylic.

Dr. Tom is right, though. If you have that much information, someone who has really seen your mouth also is in the best position to give you treatment advice.

Answer by DrDOA
A bone graft (surgically house bone in that area) would do the trick, then you can have the option to choose either treatment you want. Of course you will need to see a specialist though.

Even if you get insurance, be aware that some plans don’t take in implants at all, some plans take in them at 50%, and most plans only pay out a maximum of about $ 1500 per YEAR, so that doesn’t go very far if you have a lot of expensive work to do. Carecredit offers interest free financing for medical/dental procedures if you need it. Excellent luck!

My family have this health insurance – health-quotation marks.isgreat.org
It is affordable and has excellent coverage for dental issues.
As I know they can provide coverage with preexisting condition.

bone graft for dental implant

when selecting a dentist what schooling should they have. There are a lot of general dentist who do implants, but I am looking for one who has schooling in implants.

Answer by Kelly Em
An Implantologist is the specialist you need.

Answer by JW
If the practitioner seats implants, he or she has had schooling in placing them. Oral surgeons and periodontists as well as general dentists house implants. If you are looking for someone with a lot of experience you could question your dentist for recommendation. Usually periodontists and oral surgeons will do the most cases because they have a larger referral base. You can also check out the page “how to find a dental professional” at

The site also has a search for a practitioner who seats dental implants.

Dental implants won’t naturally change colors from my experience. Its naturally the other teeth around it that get stains and make the implants look like the incorrect color. That said ancient composite (white fillings) are renowned to discolor when they are getting to be over 20 being ancient, but by that stage they can be redone.

One suggestion here is to have the teeth whitened before she gets the implants as this will allow the dentist to contest the bleached colour to the new implants. Also ensure that the teeth get regular annual to 6 month cleans to ensure that stains are removed. This will help keep the teeth white.

If she is a coffee drinker let her know that after she bleaches she should lay off the coffee for a while to avoid new stains after bleaching. (The stains tend to stick worse after bleaching because the tooth enamel is softer)

Hope this helps.

You are doubtless referring to the crowns that are cemented on implants. Implants are in bone and under the tissue so they are not visible. White crowns (porcelain) can stain over time with tea, coffee, and red wine consumption. If she is bleaching her teeth before getting the crowns her natural teeth will doubtless reversion and the color of her natural teeth might get darker as compared to the crowns.

Answer by John Bridger – DDS
The dental implant is like the root of a tooth, you cannot see them. Though, the crown that is placed over the implant is made of porcelain and will not change color. It can get stained from coffee, etc. but that stain can easily be polished off by a dental hygienist. Make sure she gets her natural teeth as white as she desires them prior to placing the implant crowns.

I am about to undergo an operation to remove my upper teeth and have implants installed. I was wondering if anyone knows what is the cost for the permanent teeth that attach to the implant once the healing is complete cost. Is it the same as a normal crown or is it less expensive?

response from Larry
My experience was, it is exactly the same. I was only charged $ 2, 400.00, for two teeth, two crowns. After the implants are in, the process is essentially the same as any other crown.

answer perioligament
fact, the crowns, which are set to your implants are more expensive because of the fact that they are made of more material than normal crowns usually . If I were you, I would def. find out how much it will cost them before you have all your perm. Upper teeth removed. You may have a so-called fusion prosthesis set to your implants. You need more information like how many implants you will be have set? Do you want to set individual crowns, or about dentures?
